Siemens - Sirius ACT RFID selector switch for improving plant performance

The availability of machines and plants also depends on the personnel who operate and maintain them. Analyses of user data harbor optimization potential for productivity.
Within the portfolio of Sirius ACT pushbuttons and signal elements is developed a selector switch based on RFID technology. The switch uses this technology to assign access rights contactlessly.

User groups with different plant authorizations

In industrial plants, numerous different authorizations are required for switch-on. For example, a service technician must have different authorizations than an operator. For example, to access a touch panel without a password or assign various switching authorizations. The latter is currently still often done using conventional mechanical key switches. However, these can become contaminated by water and dirt. With an RFID selector switch, there is no mechanical contact between switch and stick. The stick contains a so-called tag that is read by the transmitter in the switch.

About four standard colored sticks with unique tag indicate the different authorization levels and a fifth that is self-programmable using IO-link software.
Another advantage is that the authorization levels of an RFID stick can be adjusted. And if a stick (tag) is lost, it can be blocked very easily. This feature also allows access to be restricted to certain times of the day.

Know exactly who is doing something on the machine and when

Which operator or mechanic was working on a machine and when can provide information about potential productivity improvements. This requires accurate tracking of who is authorized to access the machine. However, conventional methods such as physical logs provide the necessary information only to a limited extent and in analog form. Our RFID selector switches allow the recording of persons or functions and accurate documentation of machine access.

The following versions of the SIRIUS ACT RFID selector switch can be used:
- RFID Selector Switch with standard electronics module
- RFID Selector switch with pre-programmed (IO-Link) electronics module
- RFID Selector switch with freely programmable (IO-Link) electronics module
